Katherine and Jeff | Perth Zoo Elephant Amphitheatre and AQWA

Katherine and Jeff booked us before they were even engaged, almost 2 years ago. So after a long wait, their wedding had finally arrived. Their wedding had a unique animal theme, with the ceremony held at the Elephant Amphitheater at Perth Zoo and reception at AQWA, the Aquarium of Western Australia! From elephants to sharks, tigers to stingrays, misty rain forest to sunset over the vast ocean, what more could a photographer want? :)

We started the day at Hillarys Harbour Resort, where both Jeff and the boys, and Katherine and her bridemaids were getting ready. After an eventful trip to the zoo, Katherine arrived in style on a Perth Zoo golf buggy. The ceremony itself was very unique, with the elephants wandering around behind the ceremony. Whilst Katherine and Jeff were signing their marriage certificate, the elephants worked on creating striking artworks, using paintbrushes and their trunks. The elephants seemed to love making their ‘ele Art’ and proudly bowed and gave a roar when their finished works were carefully displayed on easels at the end of the ceremony.

After some quick photos around the zoo, from the bamboo plants, the suspension bridge in the rain forest retreat and the carousel, we then headed back to Hillarys for some photos in AQWA’s tunnel, and a few photos by the ocean. The reception was very lively, with everyone mingling and having a great time. In keeping in their animal theme, I could make a joke about Jeff and the boys being party animals, but instead I’ll just say they made very creative use of the serviettes and other props. It could have been the sugar high, due to the custom lolly bar cart that Jeff’s Dad and brother had literally build by hand, that had been filled to the brim with the yummiest lollies by Jeff’s crafty mum.
Thank you Katherine and Jeff for a epic day, and for having us part of your celebrations :)

About

Hi there!
Richard and Jen are award winning wedding photographers based in Perth, Western Australia.

Their unique style is vibrant, landscape and fashion inspired, a mixture of dramatic lighting and softer sun kissed images, interwoven with candid emotional moments and all the fun that is a wedding.

Whilst they can direct your pose down to the tiniest shift of the arm or chin if needed, they also are happy to hang back behind the bushes (literally) as your day unfolds leaving you to enjoy the moments. And to prevent that 'camera smile', they come prepared with short activities and bad jokes that will result in authentic expressions; intimate moments or lots of laughter. It is this combination that results in such a variety of powerful, memorable images.
